There’s a problem in this list. Have you spotted it yet? 1904, Clyde J. Wyman Day apparently had a busy day, getting married twice. In this case, the first entry is correct, he was married the first time in Cass County, Nebraska, to Eleanor Conkling, about whom I know virtually nothing except that she died soon after their marriage. Soon after, Clyde moved to South Dakota, leading me to believe the death of his wife might have been a catalyst for the move.
Growing up, this first wife was never mentioned, even getting most of my start in genealogy from Clyde’s daughter Alta May Day. I wonder if she even knew about this first wife. If Clyde ever mentioned her? I found the data through the usual methods of finding people and facts about their lives, not through family information handed down from generation to generation. This is the second great-grandfather for which I’ve found extra (unmentioned) marriages!
The second entry is incorrect, of course, and I left it in this list solely for the sake of this discussion. The second marriage was in 1909 in South Dakota. Double check your dates!
